You're a Listener and you don't get it...

Radio Stations do contests in an attempt to draw more listeners to the station. If it weren't for ratings you'd probably hear almost nothing in the way of contests on any radio station. Contests can be a real pain in the butt. Having said that...

Have you ever been listening to your favorite radio station and all of a sudden they come on with some contest and the prize is a real piece of crap? You know..like "Be the 10th caller and win a nose hair clipper!" Now there's a prize everyone will want. Especially you ladies! Some of you anyway.

Radio stations get most of the prizes they give away in contests from advertisers. Some clients will only make the big advertising buy if the station agrees to do a promotion which involves giving away their shi.. uh.. merchandise. Sometimes that merchandise isn't worth a damn but the client has kicked in a little something extra for the General Manager or PD to sweeten the deal. So what should have never happened...happens. And you get to trim the hairs in your nose.

KRUD Listener Tip: If you are "lucky" enough to win one of these great prizes why not turn the table on the station. When they say "You've just won a nose hair trimmer!" you say something like "Well that sucks!" or "Could I get an extra for my wife?" If you're one of those winners with a limited vocabulary..just say "Bummer!"

Give the poor DJ that has to give this crap away something to work with. Help him make a bit out of it. He'll love you for it. Hey, it wasn't his idea to give the junk away... Blame the salesman that closed the deal. We'll talk about sales people in the future.
